Thanking Our Troops

  • Thanking Our Troops

Before Thanksgiving, I asked for your ideas on the best way we can thank our service men and women during the holiday season. There was an overwhelming response. Here are several of your suggestions:

“I like to shake their hands whenever I see one or two of them walking by or sitting somewhere in public, I make a point to thank them for their service. I always get a smile."

“Although it does not sound like much, a simple "Thank You" and "May God Bless You" go a long way."

“By dedicating the money and support they need in the war in Afghanistan."

“We will never be able to thank them enough for their service to our country. I am an ex-Vietnam veteran and have a pretty good idea of what they are going through. Their sacrifice and duty are unbelievable!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your service."

“My wife and I go to DFW and "Greet the troops" once a month. Everyone in Texas cannot do this but I understand that there are organizations that will forward a "thank you" card to our troops."

“Provide quality after care that addresses the effects of combat, including PTSD, and family or couple counseling."

“Pray for them and their families daily."

“When you see our U.S. Servicemen in the airports, greet them with a smile on your face and tell them how proud you are of them and thank them for their service to our great country."

“I am a retired Army 1st Sgt and spent 2 years in Vietnam. There is nothing better than a letter, just a simple letter to let them know someone is thinking about them. Thank you for your concern."

“By providing them with medical attention for all the problems developed by war. Both physical and mental rehab."

“As a veteran who was deployed over several holidays over the years, I can tell you that all the cards and packages received were wonderful. Always better to get hand written notes than e-mail since they seemed so much more personal. But what every Service member wants more than all the packages is to know that the American people appreciate their service and the sacrifices of their families. A simple thank you from a stranger on the street is worth millions. Another thing that is important is knowing that our government leaders will support the military and the veterans, and not target military/veterans benefits to pay for other things. Our service has already been done, and our part paid. Thank us all by protecting the benefits we already earned."

“By making sure they do not live in poverty should they become seriously wounded during their service to our country."

“By giving them the best medical care of America. They deserve it 100%."
