Granger Applauds Work by House to Pass Legislation Funding Transportation Projects for 2004

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) today applauded the work of her colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in passing H.R. 2989, the Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act for 2004.

"This bill funds important community projects in a fiscally responsible way,"" said Granger. "These are projects that are near and dear to my heart. They are the projects that can really make a difference in the lives of every taxpayer."

The Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act funds programs that improve highways and alleviate traffic congestion. The bill also funds the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the office that combats terrorist financing and financial crimes.

H.R. 2989 passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 381 to 39. The Senate is expected to consider their version of this bill next week and following that action the two chambers will reconcile the bills.

Congresswoman Granger is especially pleased the House bill includes these projects for the 12th district:

•$500,000 for new bike and pedestrian trails around the Trinity River.

•$1.2 million for redevelopment and enhancements of seven priority corridors: East Lancaster; East Rosedale; Hemphill; Berry Street; West 7th Street; Camp Bowie; and North Main Street.

•$325,000 for six new environmentally friendly buses for the North East Transportation Service which provides transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities.

•$4 million for new buses for the Fort Worth Transportation System.
