Dear Friend,

I had the privilege of participating in two Public Service Announcements that hit the airwaves in our area last week.

The first, called “Signs,” works to bring awareness to mental health disorders. More than one in four American adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder, but many fail to get the assistance they so desperately need. If someone you know shows signs of a mental illness, please let them know that you care and then seek help from a doctor or mental health professional.

To find services nearby, you may call 1-800-662-HELP. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers immediate assistance at 1-800-273-TALK. For those in Tarrant County, MHMR offers a number of resources for those suffering from mental illnesses, including a 24-hour crisis hotline: 1-800-866-2465. For more information, you can visit www.afsp.org

The second Public Service Announcement, titled “Who Me?,” discusses ideas everyone can put to use to help prevent cancer, including eating healthy, wearing sunscreen, staying active, and getting regular preventive screenings. These steps, among others, can help protect you from cancers, such as colorectal, breast, cervical, and skin. For more information on ways to prevent cancer, you can visit www.preventcancer.org.

Thank you for taking the time to view these Public Service Announcements, and as always, please reach out to my office if we can ever be of assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Kay Granger
