WASHINGTON – Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) released the following statement after the Department of Education announced that Texas Wesleyan University will receive $1,857,910 million in grants from the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, with $928,000 going towards students’ financial assistance. These funds come directly from the 'Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act', the third coronavirus relief package that President Trump signed into law on March 27, 2020.

Congresswoman Granger said, “As a former educator, I know firsthand that nothing strengthens our country, economy, and local communities like investments in high-quality education. Across the country, students and schools of all levels have adapted to these unprecedented and challenging times, proving that quality education can and does happen anywhere. However, far too many college students have had not just their educations, but also their lives disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, and are facing financial hardship. I’m happy to see that Texas Wesleyan University will be receiving $1,857,910 in Department of Education grants, with $928,000 being directed towards students in the form of financial assistance.

“As the top Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue working with President Trump, Governor Abbott, and local leaders in education to ensure that future coronavirus relief packages continue prioritizing America’s students and those who work on their behalf.”
