WASHINGTON - Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) released the following statement after attending the signing ceremony of the Abraham Accords, the historic peace agreement between Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain. The ceremony was conducted at the White House, where the leaders of Israel, the UAE, and Bahrain formally agreed to officially normalize relations.
“I applaud the bold vision of the Trump Administration and the bravery of the leaders of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain to embark upon today’s historic step toward peace. Today’s momentous breakthrough will unite three of America’s most reliable regional partners and positively impact generations to come.
"Just moments before the initial Israel-UAE agreement was announced on August 13th, I discussed solutions with those on the frontlines of the Middle East peace process, including U.S. officials and Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi. Last week, I was happy to learn that Bahrain announced it will also formally recognize Israel and join the normalization agreement with the UAE. I was happier still to see all three countries make history today at the White House.
“As the top Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to work with President Trump to support the strong U.S.-Israel relationship, and I hope that today’s events mark the first in a series of peaceful partnerships that eventually end over seven decades of hostilities in the Middle East."
