WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), the Republican Leader of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement today after voting no on the Democrats' War Powers Resolution.

"Today, I cast my vote in strong opposition to the politically-driven War Powers Resolution brought before the House of Representatives. The President of the United States has the constitutional authority to protect Americans when threatened at home or abroad, and he has exercised this right following continued aggression by Iran. For years, General Soleimani has been crafting evil schemes to kill Americans in the Middle East, which have resulted in more than 600 deaths of our own Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. Soleimani's recent orchestrated attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the 11 attacks in Iraq over the past two months are just the most current incidents in decades of violence against America and our national security interests abroad.

"This War Powers Resolution will not go anywhere in the Senate. The only thing Democrats have accomplished is to show that they are willing to put politics ahead of the country by attempting to create division and disorganization at a time when we should be coming together to show unity and strength as a nation. It is my firm belief that the United States is more protected now as a result of President Trump's decisive action, and I will continue to fight for the safety and security of our Armed Forces and civilians throughout the world."
