WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), top Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will award a total of $1,543,531 to the Tarrant County Housing Assistance Office, the Weatherford Housing Authority, and the Housing Authority of Fort Worth to support the agencies’ work in assisting residents through HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program. These funds come directly from the ‘Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act’, the third coronavirus relief package that President Trump signed into law in March.

"As the coronavirus pandemic and its economic impact persist, the work of public service agencies has never been more crucial. Ensuring strong communities where residents are safe and with shelter is among the best ways to combat the spread of the virus, but unfortunately, too many public housing agencies on the frontlines have seen their own resources stretched thin by the pandemic, as have the low-income families, seniors, and those with disabilities who they serve.

"I’m happy to share that Tarrant and Weatherford County public housing agencies are receiving over $1.5 million to help support the health and safety of the low-income individuals and families receiving assistance through HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program, with over $920,000 going specifically to Fort Worth and over $95,100 to Weatherford. These grants will provide the agencies with the added resources they need to help our metroplex’s most vulnerable residents afford safe and sanitary housing.

"As the top Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue working with President Trump, Governor Abbott, and local leaders to ensure that future coronavirus relief packages continue prioritizing funding for our communities that need it most."
