I recently co-introduced H.R. 6505, the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act of 2022, alongside 28 of my Republican colleagues to provide much-needed support to expecting parents and their families in TX-12 as well as across this great country as they welcome their new family members.
As a mother of three, I know firsthand the expenses accrued prior to a child being born. This bill is designed to help expecting parents manage these costs by extending the Child Tax Credit to provide money spent preparing for the impending birth. The coverage would include money needed for stocking up on diapers, purchasing a stroller or crib, or even baby-proofing a home. The purpose of the bill is to ensure that families have the support they need in preparing for the newborn child they will soon welcome home.
H.R. 6505 also provides aid to parents that experience the tragedy of a miscarriage or stillborn birth. These grieving parents endure unimaginable loss and face unique challenges, and this bill offers meaningful support during a difficult time.
The Child Tax Credit has provided direct assistance to low and moderate-income families since its enactment in 1997. By including income level qualification metrics, this bill makes sure that the support is going to those who need it most and provides protections for the most vulnerable members of our society.
I will continue to fight for the parents and families in TX-12, and the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act of 2022 would make a real difference in bridging a gap and providing monetary assistance for those hoping to grow their family in today’s challenging environment.
