Today, Congresswoman Kay Granger (TX-12) announced the award of a $245,122 federal grant for Alliance Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration grant assists in the rehabilitation of the airport's taxiway.
The funds were secured through the Fiscal Year 2002 Transportation Appropriations bill, and Congresswoman Granger is a member of the committee that approved funding for the project.
"With the rehabilitation of this taxiway, Alliance will continue to grow as our gateway for international trade," said Congresswoman Granger. "I worked hard to secure this grant because I know the vital role Alliance plays in the health of the North Texas economy."
This two-year grant provides $141,697 this year with the remaining $103,425 to follow in 2003. These funds will be spent to prevent further deterioration and prolong the life of the airport's taxiway. Design work for the pavement rehabilitation will begin immediately with construction of the repairs anticipated in the summer of 2003 when the second installment of this grant is received. The taxiway serves the American Airlines Wide Body Maintenance Facility and FedEx Southwest Regional Hub. The repairs will include drainage corrections and pavement replacement.
Fort Worth Alliance Airport is the centerpiece of the 15,000-acre AllianceTexas development that houses more than 110 companies, 21.4 million square feet and 20,000 employees. With more than 200,000 metric tons in 2001, the airport handles more air cargo than any other non-commercial passenger facility in the country. Fort Worth Alliance Airport also features a Fixed Base Operation that has earned the top honor from ExxonMobil for customer service for an unprecedented six straight years and a control tower that has garnered many FAA awards, including tower of the year in 2001.
