Ambassador to Iraq, L. Paul Bremer III, met with Congresswoman Kay Granger (R – Fort Worth) and other members of a congressional delegation that will depart for Iraq tomorrow. Bremer provided first-hand accounts of Coalition Provisional Authority efforts to restore security, rebuild infrastructure, and described the progress Iraqi officials have made in establishing democracy for the people of Iraq.
he Ambassador provided the delegation with critical insights into Iraq’s infrastructure as preparation for its mission. Bremer said the delegation will find power generator turbines, oil refining furnaces, and textile mills that are more than forty years old. This equipment had been neglected under Saddam Hussein’s former regime.
"Ambassador Bremer gave the best explanation of what has been done and needs to be done in Iraq that I have heard so far," said Granger. "This meeting was a great help in preparing for my trip to Iraq tomorrow."
Congresswoman Granger is eager to visit with U.S. troops who are stationed overseas, and she looks forward to seeing a free, unified Iraq.
