Washington, DC- Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) has issued the following statement of support for U.S. military action against Saddam Hussein's regime:
"My thoughts and prayers are first with the thousands of men and women in uniform as they enter the unpredictable field of battle and, of course, with their families back home who are concerned for their safety. All Americans should be grateful for the service of our troops in defense of our security.
"When I voted to give the President the authority to use force against Iraq if necessary, I held out hope that Saddam Hussein could be disarmed through peaceful means. However, the U.S. has exhausted every effort at diplomacy and it is clear that Saddam's defiance can only be met by the use of force. He has led us to this regretful point and he has sealed his fate.
"The United States cannot permit rogue dictatorships to unleash weapons of mass destruction or put them in the hands of international terrorist organizations.
"This is a burden we did not seek, but one we must assume. I call on all Americans to stand behind our troops and their Commander-in-Chief."
