Granger Statement on White House Ceremony with Pope Benedict XVI
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Kay Granger, Vice Chair of the Republican Conference, today attended a ceremony at the White House honoring Pope Benedict XVI.
“The ceremony honoring Pope Benedict XVI was beautiful and inspirational – it was America at its best.
“The Pope talked about the beginning of this country and both he and the President referenced the significant part religion and faith play among this nation’s citizens, which I thought was important.
“Kathleen Battle sang the Lord’s Prayer, and everyone in the crowd sang a spontaneous Happy Birthday to the Pope. It was a terrific moment.”
