Dear Friend,

In a press release referencing Republican spending cuts to the federal budget, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said last week: “Republicans still remain fixated on an ideological plan that will put hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work.  I don’t see how they can honestly support that plan, and claim credit for any job growth, at the same time."

That statement illustrates a fundamental difference between me and the Democrats in Washington.  I firmly believe that the private sector creates jobs – not government spending and stimulus packages.  House Republicans are making progress cutting billions from the federal budget and creating a predictable business climate by going after many of the regulations this administration has implemented.

These are the ideas that will turn our economy around.  In contrast, Democrats see salvation in government programs while increasing taxes on individuals and business.

New employment figures from the Department of Labor support my point.  Last week, the department announced that the unemployment rate dropped below 9 percent for the first time in two years.  Private sector jobs were the primary reason for encouraging employment numbers.  I will continue to listen to the businesses in my district to hear what is hurting their growth and bring their voice back to Washington to make sure they can grow their businesses and get people back to work.

Sincerely,
