WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Kay Granger, Chairwoman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Committee, released the following statement regarding Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ decision to petition the United Nations for limited statehood status:

“I am extremely disappointed with President Abbas’ decision to seek limited statehood status at the U.N.  The only legitimate way of achieving statehood is through direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel.  This maneuver serves as a diversion from, and an impediment to, the need to restart direct talks.”
