Congresswoman Kay Granger (TX-12) issued the following statement on the Implementation of the First Step Agreement on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Nuclear Program.
"I continue to have very serious reservations about both the implementation and the underlying plans and their failure to completely dismantle Iran's nuclear program and capabilities.
"It's vital to the interest of the US and our allies to ensure Iran does not become a nuclear state. I am concerned that while negotiations have been ongoing it has allowed Iran to further develop key components of its nuclear program that will make it more difficult to reverse as discussions continue.
"The tough sanctions placed on Iran have been working and until the international community can fully verify Iran is dismantling its nuclear program I firmly believe current sanctions must stay in effect and the threat of further sanctions should remain on the table.
"I hope the Administration will brief Congress in the coming days on the implementation plan and the steps going forward."
