WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kay Granger issued the following statement on House passage of the House-Senate Conference Report providing $1.1 billion in funding for the response to the Zika virus.

“I am pleased that the House has voted to provide substantial funding for the fight against Zika. I urge the Senate to approve this bill without delay to ensure we move forward quickly to combat this dangerous virus.

“As chair of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, I want to emphasize that there are substantial funds in the bill for international response efforts to stop the virus at its source. This includes mosquito control activities to prevent the spread of the virus, public information campaigns to get the message out about Zika and evacuations of Americans if needed.

“These efforts have already begun with $589 million redirected by the Administration to respond to the Zika virus. The funds approved by the House will provide the next step. We have made sure they are targeted and focused, and will receive strong oversight.”
