The House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee oversees more than 50 percent of discretionary funding. As Chairwoman of this Subcommittee, I am committed to rebuilding our military to keep the United States and our allies safe.
Dear Friend,
This week I chaired the first two hearings of the Defense Subcommittee in the 115th Congress. With the challenges to our military readiness and the complex and diverse threats facing our country, I appreciate the generals who came to the Capitol this week to testify in front of the Subcommittee about their commands.
Subcommittee hearings provide opportunities for Members to hear from experts who go in-depth on specific topics. In the coming weeks, there will be a number of hearings in order to help create a Fiscal Year 2018 Defense Appropriations bill that provides for our common defense and gives the men and women in uniform the training and equipment they need to do their jobs and return home safely.
Since becoming Chairwoman, I have been listening to the expertise of those serving in uniform to determine the needs of our military. It is why I have already met with over a dozen senior defense leaders outside of hearings – and will continue to do so.
I believe this is the most effective way to make informed funding decisions. After years of arbitrary and dangerous budget cuts, the decisions we make will be watched closely by our allies and adversaries alike.
Sincerely,
Kay Granger
Member of Congress
