My Take: America Leads

April 13, 2017

With the President’s targeted military action in response to the atrocities committed by the Assad regime against innocent civilians, the United States has shown we are ready to lead again on the world stage.

Dear Friend,

When the White House made me aware in advance of last week’s targeted military action against the Assad regime, I told them they would have my full support. The regime’s use of chemical weapons against innocent men, women and children is horrific and cannot be allowed. The Syrian Government used these weapons in direct violation of international law and there needed to be an immediate, proportionate response.

The decisive action by this administration demonstrated to the American people and the world that America will lead from a position of strength. When this Administration draws a “red line” the world knows that line cannot be crossed without repercussions.

For many years, the world and our allies have been trying to assess what they should do in the absence of U.S. global leadership. Now the world knows that the days of “leading from behind” are over and the United States is ready to act like the world power we are.

I applaud the President for taking this necessary action and cannot overstate the impact it has on the world’s image of American strength. To be safe, we must be strong. In today’s dangerous world, that is more important than ever.

Sincerely,

Kay Granger
Member of Congress
