MCALLEN – Today, Deputy Secretary of Defense David Norquist invited Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX) to visit the southern border near McAllen, Texas. As the top Republican on the Appropriations Committee, Granger has fought tirelessly to support President Donald Trump’s efforts to provide meaningful border security, including $2.75 billion over the past two years to build a physical barrier along the border. After visiting U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s McAllen Station, seeing first-hand immigration and security operations and new border wall construction, Ranking Member Granger and Secretary Norquist released the following statements.

“From the beginning of his administration, President Trump made it a priority to secure the border, curb illegal immigration, and put the safety of the American people first and foremost, and I have been pleased to work alongside him on these efforts. We have made significant strides in building the wall, improving border security technology, and providing additional humanitarian assistance, and it is clear that continued resources are needed to address the ongoing crisis at our southern border,” said Ranking Member Granger.

“President Trump and I are committed to continuing to keep our promises to secure the border and strengthen our national security.”

Secretary Norquist stated, "Border security is a critical element of our national security and this visit provided an excellent opportunity to see border wall construction first-hand and gain a better understanding of critical operations on the border.”
