WASHINGTON – Today, top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) released the following statement on continued efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
“The Trump Administration and Texas officials are taking strong, decisive action to combat the spread of the coronavirus, and I am proud to work directly with those leading the response— from our local and state-level government officials, to my colleagues in Congress, and the White House’s coronavirus task force.
"I am presently working around the clock with my colleagues in the House and Senate to advance more legislation that protects the health, safety, and economic well-being of the American people.
“President Trump's early decision to restrict travel slowed the coronavirus’ spread in our homeland, and today’s decision to temporarily close the Southern Border – considered the busiest border in the world – will prevent further spread. I am heartened that the temporary closure of the Southern border, as the President said, ‘will not impede lawful trade and commerce’ between the U.S. and Mexico, Texas’ largest trading partner.
“I am also heartened by the President and Governor Abbott’s bold action to protect small businesses in Texas and across the country, including in the form of enhanced protections and disaster relief loans.
“As we work to stop the spread of the virus across the country and in our local communities, time is of the essence. I will continue to ensure that President Trump and the State of Texas have the funds needed to combat the coronavirus.
“Americans seeking more information on travel restrictions should monitor updates from the State Department, which is advising against all international travel due to the global threat of coronavirus: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html/.”
