WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), the top Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will award $35 million to Fort Worth Housing Solutions’ Cavile Place Project through HUD’s “Choice Neighborhoods” program, which helps local leaders implement homegrown plans to revitalize blighted or transitional neighborhoods.
“While Fort Worth’s local economy has boomed in recent years, some areas have been unable to participate in our community’s strong growth. The Stop Six neighborhood—a once-prosperous neighborhood named after its location on a former railway—is one such area and is the focus of Fort Worth Housing Solutions’ Cavile Place Project. I’m happy to see that Fort Worth Housing Solutions will be receiving $35 million towards this project through HUD’s ‘Choice Neighborhoods’ program, which will support the city’s efforts to revitalize the historic Stop Six neighborhood and replace the area’s distressed housing with high-quality homes.
“I strongly support this community-driven plan to help build a safer, more prosperous Stop Six. Last year, I met with Fort Worth Housing Solutions to discuss the project, and in September, I had the chance to personally advocate on the project’s behalf to HUD Secretary Ben Carson.
“As the former Mayor of Fort Worth, I know first-hand how community revitalization can improve residents’ employment, health, and education, and I will continue working with my Congressional colleagues and local leaders to ensure that Washington continues to serve residents of our District’s transitioning and lower-income areas.”
