WASHINGTON – Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) released the following statement after the Department of Education announced that Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Christian University, the University of North Texas Health Science Center, and the Tarrant County College District will receive a combined $15,129,368 in grants from the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. These funds come directly from the 'Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act', the third coronavirus relief package that President Trump signed into law one month ago.

“As a former educator, I know firsthand how important quality education is to a strong country. The coronavirus pandemic is a time of unprecedented uncertainty for many of America’s universities and colleges, and it has jeopardized many institutions’ affordability and access for its students. Many universities and colleges are facing strong financial pressure due to lost revenue and the costs of expanding remote learning, building IT capacity, and training faculty and staff to ensure that quality education can continue anywhere.

“I’m pleased that Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Christian University, the University of North Texas Health Science Center, and the Tarrant County College District will receive a combined $15,129,368 in Department of Education relief funds, thanks to the CARES Act. These grants will allow these institutions to make important investments in strengthening their remote learning capacity in these unexpected and unprecedented times.
