Need to Know:
- The vaccine rollout gets off to a strong start across Texas. This month, Texas became the first state to vaccinate over one million people for the coronavirus, and Texas continues to outpace other states in administrating the vaccine. Governor Abbott and the Texas Department of State Health Services have credited our state’s 82 vaccine ‘hubs,’ which have the capacity to administer several thousands of vaccines per week at centralized, easy-to-find locations. There are already at least six vaccine hubs operational in North Texas, and , this week, the State of Texas announced the opening of more nearby hubs, including at the Tarrant County Public Health Department, Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth, and Parker County Hospital District, which was recently selected to act as a Regional Rural Vaccine Hub. Even rural Texas counties lead the country in vaccination rates, according to Governor Abbott, accounting for 8 of the top 11 counties in America.

- If you have not received your second economic impact payment and are eligible, you may need to claim it when you file your 2020 taxes. By now, most taxpayers that qualify should have received their second economic impact payment of up to $600 via direct deposit. Remember, some Americans will receive their impact payment by mail, either as a paper check or in the form of a prepaid debit card—and the IRS is urging those who haven’t yet gotten their payment to carefully watch their mail throughout the month of January. You can determine the status of your payment by using the IRS’s “Get My Payment” tool. If you’re eligible for a second economic impact payment and did not receive one, you’ll have to claim it as a rebate when you file your 2020 taxes. Additional information is available on online here.
