Dear Friend,
In 2006 the city of Fort Worth came together in typical Texas fashion to lend an effort to name the Navy’s third littoral combat ship (LCS-3) after our great city. We were successful.
Today I had the privilege of christening the USS Fort Worth (LCS3) in Marinette, Wisconsin. As the ship’s sponsor there are great responsibilities I share with all of you. The biggest part of our responsibility is to ensure the crew and their families are given the best possible care by our community over the course of the ship’s service.
Fort Worth deserves this honor. Our North Texas community has a long history of military support since it was founded in 1849 as an Army outpost overlooking the Trinity River. We will continue to honor our heritage of service and patriotism by taking great care of this ship and crew marked with our name. The character of our city is engrained in the ship’s motto, Grit and Tenacity’.
Sincerely,
Kay Granger
