WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) today released the following statement regarding the Administration’s new strategy for the war in Afghanistan:
“The President's speech recognizes the importance of defeating al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but we must not underestimate the danger of the Taliban and the Haqqani network to the stability and progress of these countries.
“Success will depend on what we do militarily and diplomatically.
“We must also recognize and deal with the reality of the narco-trafficking that provides funding for these organizations. We have to clearly understand what we are dealing with in these complex societies and not make the mistake of thinking they are the same as what we faced in Iraq.”
