Coronavirus Update: July 8th, 2020

Statistics are current as July 8th, 3:00pm CT  

• In Texas, 2,471,029 people have been tested, resulting in 210,585 cases and 2,715
  deaths, as reported by the Texas Department of State Health Services. There are an estimated 99,385 active cases in our state, and an estimated 108,485 coronavirus patients in Texas have successfully recovered.  
  • Tarrant County has at least 14,828 confirmed cases; Parker County has 388; and Wise County has 145. The number of people hospitalized for the coronavirus in Tarrant County has more than doubled since June 15.
• In the United States, there are at least 2,932,596 cases and 130,133 deaths, as reported by the CDC.

 
Need to Know:

• Mask up, Texas. Last Thursday, July 2nd, Governor Abbott issued an order requiring all Texans to wear a face covering when in public in any county with 20 or more active coronavirus cases—so mask up when venturing out in Texas District 12. First-time offenders of the mask mandate will receive a warning, but repeat offenders must pay a fine of $250. Our state and local leaders are working around the clock to corral the coronavirus in our state, including by launching surge testing in virus hot spots. Young people in particular are still being urged to not let their guards down as summer temperatures rise: Data from Tarrant County Public Health has shown that 25- to 44-year-olds have led other age groups in positive cases of the coronavirus since Memorial Day weekend.

• The Paycheck Protection Program works for the Texas 12 worker. The Paycheck Protection Program’s forgivable loan program for small businesses continues to have Texas-sized results for our state. With over $520 billion in loans already approved for American small businesses, over $41 billion has been approved for Texas small businesses. Thanks to the PPP, over 4.5 million Texans have kept their jobs, including at least 204,350 in Tarrant County alone. At least 4,000 small businesses in Tarrant County received forgivable loans of $150,000 or more, with about 500 small businesses receiving loans of over $1 million.
